OFSTED registration requirements for Nannies

Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid (RQF) (1 day)

Course Description:

CPR training
Paediatric First Aid - Choking child.

Duration: This course involves at least 6 hours of training and is run over one day.


The certificate is valid for three years. To renew, first-aiders will need to undertake a 6-hour Paediatric course to obtain another three-year certificate.

Annual Refresher:

HSE strongly recommends that first-aiders undertake annual refresher training, This will help qualified first-aiders maintain their basic skills and keep up to date with any changes to first-aid procedures.

Course Content:

  • Planning for First Aid Emergencies
  • Dealing with emergencies
  • Activating the emergency services and identifying the need to call the EMS
  • First Aid kits and accident reportingUnconscious but breathing (Recovery Position)
  • Resuscitation Procedures Appropriate to the Age of the Children being cared forAdult, Infant and Child CPR
  • Drowning
  • Choking and choking becoming unconscious after choking
  • Shock
  • Spinal Injury

  • Serious bleeding and minor bleeding
  • Burns and Scalds

The Ofsted requirements for Nannies and Au Pairs state that a minimum 6-hour child care course is required. Childminders, nursery workers and child workers still need the two-day course to meet their requirements.

This one day course meets the needs of the voluntary part of the Ofsted Childcare Register for Nannies and Au Pairs.

On completion of the course, you will receive a certificate and wallet card in the post.

The training is in line with the latest UK resuscitation guidelines from the Resuscitation Council (UK) as published on 18th October 2010 by the HSE.

Nannies: OFSTED Registration Requirements

To meet the Ofsted voluntary registration requirements you must:

- have an appropriate first aid qualification
- have a minimum level 2 childcare qualification, or training in the common core skills
- have personal liability insurance, covering death, injury, public liability, damage or other loss
